All dedicated MX/trail practice tracks we know of
As we learn about new facilities we add them to this page
Below a list of all the tracks we know of where you can ride with your bike. At most of them you pay a small fee and have a day of awsum riding. A couple are free. Some of them have no facilities, others have showers, toilets, shop and food. Find out what they offer by clicking on their logo.
As all the tracks have different ways of operating you need to read their website/fb info or ring them to find out the details. Please click on the logos to be linked to their websites/fb sites.
Almost all NZ MX Clubs have their own tracks, but we have only included the Club Tracks that have set practice days/are open most days and where you can pay a fee and ride the whole day. You will find other tracks occasional practice days in our NZ MX Calendar here.
Many of the club tracks also offer a season key for their members for a fee.

NORTH ISLAND

Sorry, at this stage we have no more info re the track. As soon as we get some contact details and if we find a web/fb page we will add it here. This is the track where North Harbour Mini MX Club runs most of their events. The track is situated on a working farm.

This is the home track of Thames Valley MCC. Please make sure the track is open first by checking the web or fb site. You can get the track key from Wheels of Thames and Aeroview Garden Centre in Thames.
Vinnys view: I have only done one club event at this track on a 85sx. It was a fast track on flat land then (think they have some jumps etc now) Good for a practice day.

This is the home track of the Black Hill MX Club. The track has currently been re-development. You can hire a key Wed-Fri from Alton Drilling in Waihi and also sign up for a membership there. Day keys are still available from the Under Ground Market (8.30am pick up and return by 4.45pm) or give the Lovely Tina a call or message on 021/163 9853.

Thompsons Track, Te Aroha Waikato

What: A dirt road track that crosses Kaimai Ranges. Approx 13km long
Open: Every day but can be closed after heavy rain.

This is a council owned track for walkers, mountain bikes, 4WD and dirt bikes. Open every day, but check website (click pic to left) as it can be closed after heavy rain.
Moto Mountain, Manawaru Matamata Waikato

This is a private training track that is open on occasional weekends. You need to check the fb page to make sure it is open! The Matamata MX Club also uses this track for it's race days.
Prosperity Tree MX Training Facility, Matamata Waikato

Cost: $20/rider. $30 if you want track watered.
This is a private training facility. You need to book and the preferred option is to do so with a group of 5-10 riders. The site is set up as a nice Bed & Breakfast so you can stay and practice for a few days! They can also organise coaching for you!
Vinny's view: Did a 2 day coaching camp here run by MX Antics and Greg Moss. Some tricky parts, but also a cool MX track. Would happily go again!
Maddix Park, Tauranga.

A privately owned facility. You rock up, pay at the house and go riding. Often they will also feed you free sausages at end of the day and a drink. Brilliant place!
Vinny's view: We have been here a few times. Once for a MX racing day, others for practice. The staff did put on drink and sausage, that was nice! The MX track is fast and sand based. A fraction narrow but OK for practice days. Not too technical.
Tect All Terrain Park, Tauranga.

Tauranga MCC has their track here, but their track is only open on set practice days. The other TECT park's tracks are open every day.
Vinny's view: This track just keeps on getting better! The club has done heaps of work on the track and it is now up there with the best! There are technical parts, fast turns, jumps and straights where you can test your speed!
Burts Farm, Matata, Bay Of Plenty

Pongakava Trail Park Te Puke, Bay Of Plenty (used to be Pirini MX Park)

What: One of the best MX tracks in the country! Also a cool mini MX track. Trail Tracks for different abilities catering for young and old.
Cost: On planned MX/Trail days: 0-5yrs free, 6-10yrs $10, 11-14yrs $20, 15-17yrs $30, 18yrs+ $40. Family 2 x Adults & 2 U18 $100. We often have MX & Mini track open during a SXS day fees for entry are less for this.
Open: One day most weekends (please check the calendar!) MX/Trail ride 9.30 - 5pm.

Vinny's view: 2015 Trent Haywood Secondary School Memorial MX was run here and all had the same opinion: What an awsum track! When the track has been maintained and watered it would be up there with the best in NZ, if not the best. On hot summers day it can get quite dusty. If you have never been here you are missing out!!
Rotorua MX Park, Rotorua

This is Rotorua MX Club's home track. Situated on the Philliphs family farm. Mike is keeping this track maintained and a delight to ride!
Vinny's view: I have been here many times for coaching, practice days but also to race. This is one of NZ's top tracks and used every year for NZ MX Champs. It is fast, has jumps, doubles and a big drop down. I really lik this track!
Tokoroa MX Park, Tokoroa

Day keys are available from Repco, Ashworth Street,(weekends and Public holidays only) and from the Veterinary Centre next to Repco during weekdays.
The key must be returned before the close of business on the day of hire.

This is the South Waikato MCC club track. A fast and in places wide track that is one of the better ones we have been to!
Vinny's view: I have raced their winter series for a year and done occasional champs here. Also been here for practices. Another cool and fast track that challenges even the best rider. Sand based wide track with big jumps, doubles and table tops.

This is the Taupo MCC club track. Please check the website for info regarding if the track is open. Normally the track is available all days of the week (apart from racing days). This is a "all weather track" and very seldom is the track closed because of bad weather. You need to pay a day hireage for a key. TRACK KEYS are available at DARRYL AUGUST MOTORCYCLES on Tuwharetoa Street - Monday to Saturday. You can also hire your track key from ADDICTION on HeuHeu Street - Saturday, Sunday and statutory holidays.
Vinny's view: Has to be NZ's top track! Sand based with everything that a top track anywhere in the world has. It is fast, can handle rain, every part is a challenge. But it will bring out the best in you! And once you master a part of the track you know you have grown as a rider!
Kopua MX Track, Gisborne

This is the Gisborne MCC club track. Please check the fb site for info if the track is open.
Vinny's view: A relative short track that struggle with rain. But OK on a dry day.
Dirt Riding Track, Pakowhai Country Park, Hastings

What: MX/Dirt Track

This is a Hawke's Bay Regional Councils designated Dirt Track for motorbikes! Situated inside the stop banks of Ngaruroro River. This means that if the river rises enough the track will be flooded. About once a year the council spends a day or two here with some machinery. Apart from that the track is left to the riders. You can ride the track 7 days/week and at any time of the day. On a dry day the track gets dusty, on a wet day it gets boggy. But it is all we have in Hastings!
Vinny's view: A neglected track with hard surface. Don't bother!

This is Taranaki MCC's home track.
Vinny's view: We have raced here a few times each year. I like the track and in particular the loooong down hill! The track can be tough to master, particularily in the rain and often takes prisoners!

This is Wanganui MCC's home track. A brilliant facility with a track on two levels that pushes you to your limit if you want that! Both the Mini and Senior/Junior tracks have had serious upgrades!
Vinny's view: This is where I had my first holeshot (in 65cc on the mini track). The track has two levels making it interesting. I like this track and have spent a few years racing here. Technical and challenging!

This is the Manawatu-Orion MCC's main home track. The track is privately owned by the Flipps family and is part of a working farm.
Vinny's view: I have never really been able to master this track. And it would be the place where things have gone wrong most times for me! But the track is OK with many fast parts interrupted by jumps.
